Our friends over at The Daily have a pretty cool scoop about the Chipotle worker (mmmmm, Chipotle) who photobombed Mitt Romney at a recent stop in Denver earlier this week. He’s a 20 year-old manager trainee named Marty Arps and his crazy bug-eyed look had the internet abuzz. While Marty himself has been barred from talking to the press by Chipotle HQ, The Daily managed to track down his father:
But while Marty Arps’ googly-eyed expression sparked giggles around the world, his father wasn’t amused.
“I saw him on Facebook this morning,” Marty Arps Sr. told The Daily yesterday in a phone interview from Denver. “He looked like a damn weirdo.”
The dad, a tattoo artist originally from Crenshaw, Calif., was at a loss as to how his 20-year-old son got to rub shoulders with the Republican presidential nominee when he stopped by the Denver restaurant.
“Of all the people in the world, he met my son,” Arps Sr. said. “That’s what’s crazy.”
The father said his son, an avid fan of pop stars Nicki Minaj and Lady Gaga, “needs to get his priorities together.” But he acknowledged the young man has “a good head on his shoulders.”
The younger Arps, a manager trainee, was at work yesterday, but was barred from speaking to the press, according to a general manager.
But the new Internet sensation took to Twitter to sound off on his bug-eyed glory. He pointed out the now-famous photo to TV host Ellen DeGeneres and even wrote to Romney: “it was a pleasure seeing you at my store today excellent photos.”
