Afghanistan narcotics police burned 24 tons of drugs on Sunday, which is roughly the amount I went through sophomore year of college.
The drugs were all seized by authorities in and around Afghanistan over the last nine months or so. This year’s staggering haul is approximately 40% bigger than last year’s similar drug-burning bonfire. According to HuffPo, 907 arrests were made over the 24 tons of drugs. Police doused the drugs in gasoline and lit it aflame. It is assumed that anyone standing downwind of it is now super, super chilled out.
Here’s a partial breakdown of the staggering amount of narcotics burned on Sunday:
– 3,900 pounds of heroin
– 6,070 pounds of opium
– 308 pounds of hashish
– 3,200 gallons of alcohol (as well as raisins used to make alcohol) were also destroyed.
