Here’s Jay-Z’s new ad for Obama

President Obama is starting off Debate Day II: The Rematch with a couple of pieces of positive news for him in what must be a well-coordinated campaign. Last night Hillary Clinton officially fell on her sword and accepted full responsibility for the Libyan embassy attacks on September 11 that killed ambassador Stevens. And this morning Jay-Z releases a shiny new ad for the president.

The ad features Jay-Z looking dapper in black tie, and brings back the “hope and change” Obama from 2008. Jay talks about “the hope of people across the country who would look and see themselves, and know the possibilities,” and how Obama’s term showed them that politics isn’t just a bunch of oligarchs talking to each other, but actually affects the fabric of day-to-day life.

Obama for his part appears disembodied in screens from his video cameo at Jay-Z’s Made In America fest like the father-son scene in “Superman 2.” Projecting a fatherly authority is exactly what he needs to do in tonight’s debate to stay alive—brilliantly subtle art direction or just coincidence? Watch below.
