The Weeknd is getting ready to release “Trilogy,” a collection of last year’s three mixtapes plus a few new songs. Late last month we heard “Enemy,” a new one from the release, and today we get “Twenty Eight” via radio spin on BBC One.
I’d speculate that “Twenty Eight” is The Weenkd’s own addition to the pantheon of songs ostensibly about a songwriter’s age and what’s happening at that time in their life, like Ryan Adams’s “29″ or Red House Painters’ “24,” but Abel Tesfaye is a ripe young 22—way too green around the ears to be writing songs about the down slope of your twenties.
At any rate, the track is smooth and soulful per The Weeknd’s usual. Side note: BBC has announced that it will host The Weeknd’s first ever interview later this month. Listen to “Twenty Eight” below.
