Arnold Schwarzenegger never wanted to say ‘I’ll be back’
In America, we associate Arnold Schwarzenegger with a few things, namely bodybuilding, rampant infidelity, and the phrase “I’ll be back,” which he has said in many of his films to great dramatic effect. The phrase has its own Wikipedia page and Youtube montage which I’ve dutifully embedded below.
Anyway, turns out he never wanted to say it. As Esquire reported in their Meaning of Life issue, Arnold wanted to say, “I will be back.” He said it sounded much “stronger in his mind.” But James Cameron wouldn’t budge on “The Terminator” script and Arnold relented.
