This is what actually happens when you give teachers guns in schools

A Bennington, Vermont teacher was placed in jail after a neighbor reported seeing him carry a Bushmaster AR-15 assault rifle to his car before school. The Bushmaster AR-15 is the very same assault weapon used to kill 27 people including 20 children in a Newtown, Connecticut elementary school. Police tracked some disturbing Facebook and YouTube videos (since removed) back to him – which described how the school “is sick and needs to be healed.” In one video clip, Davis said “This is all planned and very well thought out. I’ve studied military tactics and this is the way to go. it’s all going to hit so hard, so fast and shut that school system down til they get things straight.”

Bennington Police Chief Paul Doucette said: “Some of his postings on YouTube and Facebook were very concerning when he talked about studying military style training he talked about reading CIA manuals and has a real dislike for some of the staff at the high school that was alarming to us and we were concerned about the safety of those people.”

Steven Davis turned in his assault weapon and himself to a mental health facility after questioning. His wife has since filed a restraining order against him.

it is not certain an AR15 was used at Newtown. Some video show LEO finding a Shotgun in the trunk of the car. Which shares cosmetic features like an AR15.

Blank, you're correct..he did have a shotgun in his trunk. He then had a 10mm Glock, a 9mm Sig, and a Bushmaster AR-15 *in the school*.

The primary weapon used in the attack was a "Bushmaster AR-15 assault-type weapon," said Connecticut State Police Lt. Paul Vance.

I guess the the "assault weapon will be under video surveillance so it does not hurt anyone. I wonder how long it will take the people in the mental health facility to figure it out that without someone on the trigger it will not do anything.

first off an ar-15 was not used at the conneticut shooting it was hand guns only. secondly nothing happened here, the guy checked into a mental health facility instead of going on a rampag, so why is this being talked about? Because there are people out there and in control of our government that don't want children safe in this country and they know that arming and training teachers is the way to do it.

This is not a madman that decided not to kill people. This is someone very Anti Gun willing to make an ass of himself and get arrested to further the Anti-gun cause. I am not the conspiracy sort, but I wouldn't doubt for a second that he has a very good pro bono lawyer or one paid for anonymously and a large chunk in his own bank account. Had this been the real deal, people would be dead. I bet he just bought the gun, first hes eve owned, recently too.

Working The Narrative are we? First, this is NOT what happens when you give teachers guns. That is inflammatory and simple fear mongering. It would be just as disingenuous to say that this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pearl_High_School_shooting) is what happens when you give teachers guns.

The role of protector is self selecting. The people who would guard the rest of society select that role for themselves, whether it be as a law enforcement officer, a soldier, or a person with a CCW permit. None of the people in those roles have anything forcing them to intervene on behalf of another (even police officers do not have any duty to protect individual citizens, as our courts have ruled over and over). The people who do so, have CHOSEN to do so.

No one is advocating forcing teachers to carry guns, or just giving them a free pass to do so (at least no one who has put more than 10 seconds of thought into it). Intelligent, reasoning people who have put some thought into this are advocating simply allowing the people who have CCW permits already, who happen to be teachers, to not be forced to leave their firearm at home when they go to work.

I personally think it would be a good idea to even require a training course with specific requirements developed by people who are experts in the field (something like what the air marshals receive) before allowing them to carry at school.

There are whackos who will do stiff like the person in this article, and yeah, some of them are teachers. Want to put a stop to it? Quit sensationalizing it and running news coverage of the event 24/7 for weeks when it happens. Read the statements in the posts and videos talked about in the article. You people are giving these jackwagons exactly what they want by doing this.

Stop calling it an assault weapon. Its a semi automatic rifle. It only becomes a assault weapon when the semi automatic rifle is tasked with a purpose….Even in the Army, we do not call our rifles, assault rifles and we have the "real" deal.

There's a typo in the article above. The AR15 is not an "assault rifle" as it is a semi-automatic rifle just like a Mini-14, M1 Garand, etc.

Just to note, an AR15 is NOT a assault weapon. AR15s are only semi automatic. They are not capable of burst or full automatic fire. AR does not stand for "assault rifle," it stands for Armalite. The manufacture/designing company.

Hi Nathan, I think you are not quite right. It isn´t the question of full automatic fire.(The AR15/ M16 I saw here were able to shoot full auto). The Definition is made with the catridge- and .223 Rem is longer tham 40 mm.But you right, "AR" means Armalite, the company Eugen Stoner worked for when he created and disigned AR14 and 15. Greetings from Germany!

To The history of assault weapons: First of all was the german "Sturmgewehr 44". The ammunition was created by making the old german 8×57 IS catridge 18mm shorter, using the same diameter. Kalashnikov went the same way, using the old Tokarev and Mosin Nagant´s catridge, but with more modifications, because it has a rim bottom. When I said, first assault rifle came from germany, I forgot to say: The idea of a smaller catridge came from USA: .30 carbine! But this is a catrigde with traditional revolver design. AK 47 or StG 44 are build for a bottle-formed catridge.
So, but back again to AR15: Eugene Stoner chossed a smaller diameter,.22 – combined with a convetional long catridge,.222 Rem, finally.223 Rem.

The school shootings that we have suffered through have been done by crazed individuals mostly acting solo and with limited training.
A simple look around the world at places like Russia and the Beslan school hostage crisis in which at least 1,200 were taken hostage and 377 killed, would tell us that if a terrorist group chose to attack us in this manner, we would be ill prepared and the loss of life would be much greater.
I applaud all efforts to protect our children. It is only a matter of time until the reality of the lack of protection for our children will be highlighted by a terrorist attack. I would remind people that 19 terrorist acting as a group were responsible for the terrible attacks of 9/11 that killed over 2000, and up until that day the idea of arming airline pilots was considered to be ludicrous. How many students are in your local high school. More gun laws and locked gates will not protect our children. http://www.armtheteachers.co

So what are the facts? Did Newton guy use an AR or pistols? Some news sources say the AR was in the trunk, others say it was a shotgun. Sounds like nobody knows yet they perpetuate this myth that semi-auto rifles are bad. Well, they are bad if you kill your mother and steal hers to do bad things..but then again, it's the person, not the gun.
