Biden’s press conference on gun control interrupted by news of school shooting in CA

Vice Preisident Joe Biden was speaking at a press conference addressing the issue of gun control in America when he was interrupted on CNN by breaking news of a school shooting in Taft, CA. The breaking news happened just after a commercial break, around 20 seconds into the video below.

The irony of the timing – how a speech on gun control was interrupted by a school shooting – should not be lost. Here’s hoping we can finally pass some legislation to prevent further weaponry assault. Fuck gun nuts.

So… we're pretty much going to keep having a big shooting once a week until something changes, huh?

So, we should ban shotguns as well? Cause it looks like assault rifles arent the only thing one can use to shoot somebody. Is this what you want, Ned? To have all guns banned?

Handguns are used more in murders using a weapon in America. Body count has nothing to do with intention. This kid today, it seems, only intended to kill the two that he shot.

And if he intended to kill more, he didnt because he was stopped. Many incidents occur where one is trying to commit mass murder and is stopped with persuasion or with force. Bodycount still doesnt mean anything when comparing successful mass murder by way of intent.

I'm sorry, but are you an idiot?

What you're essentially saying is that, just because you don't do something, then there shouldn't be a law on it.
We can make the assumption that you don't murder anyone, but does that mean there shouldn't be any legislation on committing a murder? Or even make murder legal?
      No, thought not.

By making something illegal, although unlikely judging by how ridiculous America seems to be presently, so let's say making something more tightly controlled and regulated is surely something that should happen. You know why?

It's because the law is there to protect people, and yeah that may mean getting rid of your AK-47, because well, if no one else has one, why do you need one?

If no one else had a gun (or it was really hard to get one) there'd be next to no shootings happening; owning a gun in the UK has been illegal since 1996 and guess what… No shootings.

Yes there are exceptions to the rule, yes some people may still own a gun (like these mafia bosses you all think exist, even though we can again assume you've never met one) but it's still making the majority of people safer, and the majority rules. We do live in a democratic countries, do we not?

How many kids have to die before America wakes up and smells the blood?

Basically, sir, you're being a little ignorant of the problem here.

No Lauren, his phrasing was pretty bad, but his statement is true. What he meant to say was: The consequences of a fruitless, illogical, and uneducated passing of a law in response to a tragedy will do more harm than good. As a law abiding citizen, taking his right to practice reasonable self-defense with his weapon of choice away because of anothers terrible decision is illogical and unconstitutional. He hasnt commited this crime, why should he be punished? He hasnt commited murder(i hope) and he does not intend to(i hope). Merely owning a gun does not mean he will commit murder. Owning a gun is not an act of agression; murder IS an act of aggression.

I'm not implying that just because he has a gun, that he'll committ murder. What I'm saying is that, he has the means to do so.
The rest of the world seems to be doing pretty well without guns, that doesn't mean they can't practise self defense.
Furthermore, this Constitution isn't God-given, it's made to be changed.
The right to bear arms was created in a time of agriculture and constant threat of civil war, so yeah, owning a gun was a bit more necessary.
But in the year 2013, how can anyone start to think about peace, if there isn't even peace and safety in a country the world looks to for guidance.

It's hardly 'uneducated' people have been campaigning for gun law changes for years! Including one Congresswoman who was shot through the head, and nearly died, or does no one remember that?
Joe Biden has had more than almost 40 years experience in Congress, and he's your elected Vice President, remember in 1804 when the constitution was AMENDED so they had to run on the same ticket?
He has more than enough experience and education to know what's best for the country and if you all started holding on to each other instead of your rifle America would probably be a much nicer place.

lol no, i assure i am not an idiot. i don't even know where to start with you… first of all baaa baaa, stop being a sheep, those elected officials care about our well being about as much as we all care about theirs, to the extent we/they profit from them/us being ok.

secondly, thats not at all what i said. i'm basically saying i should not have my rights taken away because some disturbed asshats can't deal with life and take it out on other people. do some research, dont just regurgitate what some talking head said on your favorite news program (newsflash:they're all just saying what their bosses political agenda tells them to, duh). you are 8 times more likely to be killed by a police officer than by a terrorist (foreign or domestic. Source: National Safety Council). So by your logic we should take away police officers guns to "protect life"? Of course not, that is a knee jerk reaction that totally overlooks the real issue. People kill people, all of these individuals are not like you and me (im assuming). We would not under any circumstances think killing other people is an ok response to whatever is going on in our lives.

LOL don't give me the safety BS, I promise you if someone really wanted to kill you, they could do so with their bare hands or a pencil or a book (just looking around my room) etc, someone not having a gun would just make it more brutal. "The rest of the world seems to be doing pretty well without guns, that doesn't mean they can't practise self defense." LOLOL please tell me that's a joke, do you watch the news or ever come out from your unicorns and rainbows shell? Seems half the world is in rebellion against their governments over something, and not even in the normal war torn countries (most of Europe comes to mind..)

Its not a god given right for any person, elected official or not, to tell any other person what to do. Our government has power over us because we choose to give it to them everyday (which im not saying is bad, they make life much easier in many aspects). What makes you think some silver spoon clown knows whats best for you or me? The fact that most politicians are affiliated with either the repubs or dems automatically discredits them in my book because both parties are coming out both ends with bullshit that the masses eat happily and ask for more. Why are people so quick to give up their rights? Contitution or not, "i'm a person god damnit, my life has value". and I will protect my loved ones and my own life, and not you or anyone else will tell me i can't do that.

      one love

      Interesting comments. I have only a few. I promise not to call anyone an idiot, or show disrespect for their opinion however;

When my home alarm goes off by my front door getting kicked in at 3:00 a.m., I'm reaching for my .45.
When my car breaks down in the middle of no where at night, I'm reaching for my .45
When I'm walking through a dark path to my hunting stand before first light in bear infested woods, I'm carrying my flashlight and my .45.
When my wife is home alone at night, I'm glad she has a .357.

You could ask what I'm so scared off. I say nothing. I've got my .45.

In CA…who have the strictest gun laws around. Guns will never be nonexistent, criminals and crazy people will always be able to access them illegally. Gun free zones are a false sense of security and they are killing. Gun control zealots are aiding criminals in murder by refusing to protect our children…leaving them as sitting ducks because some Democrats want to live in lala land thinking guns will magically disappear one day. We need to train and arm our teachers instead of leaving our children unprotected.

People WILL obtain guns illegally. Not arming our teachers is ridiculous. First gun control, and then what? Some cybernetic implant in your ass so you cant fire one? What exactly do these people think? Come down to reality and then we'll talk.
