Just when you think you have seen it all, another group from the ’90s that no one is asking to reunite reunites. The infamous—dare I say fashion forward—rap group Kris Kross returns from retirement to remind us all of the simpler times. The times when wearing your clothes backwards was hip. Where all you needed was a simple hook and beat to sell singles. When artists actually sold albums.
But Chris “Mac Daddy” Kelly and Chris “Daddy Mac” Smith were most notorious for making backwards oversized clothing a thing. Oddly, we were just reminiscing about these guys the other day. Here is hoping that they keep their nicknames at age 32.
Mac Daddy and Daddy Mac were discovered in an Atlanta mall by none other than Jermaine Dupri, and their first album, “Totally Krossed Out,” went on to sell 4 million copies in the US alone. They are most famous for their single “Jump” which landed them on the top of the Billboard 100 for eight straight weeks.
The group is reuniting for a 20th anniversary all-star concert in honor of Dupri’s record label, So So Def Recordings. Hopefully this will inspire them to get on the road and complete their long-awaited fourth album which they started working on in the summer of 2000.
