Dredd might be gay

In an exclusive interview with Comic Book Resources, writer Rob Williams discusses the upcoming issue of “Dredd: Closet” from 2000 AD. The January 30 issue centers around an abused gay teen who finds himself in an underground gay club, and, wouldn’t you know it, our titular hero is “the ultimate symbol of macho, leather-clad repression” for Mega-City One.

So expect lots of Dredd cosplay hotness in the club, but what about the judge himself?

Williams answers:

It’s all buried beneath layers upon layers. There’s a man there, like anyone else, he’s not a robot. But Dredd’s pure repression … Sure, Dredd could be gay. You can’t look at the original costume design of leather and chains and not see a fetishistic edge there. But, as I said before, Dredd’s feeling[s] are so deeply hidden, he is extremely unlikely to ever let them show. With Dredd, you only ever get subtle glimpses of the man beneath.

To find out what kind of lover Dredd would want (“someone able to handle a nightstick in a skilled, brutal manner”), read the rest of Williams’ candid interview here.

Who cares… Has absolutely no place in Dredd's universe. He is the Law, that is all.

If John Wagner (or Pat Mills) didn't write it it doesn't mean anything.
