When a Eyewitness News reporter Toni Yates spotted a freezing dog on the side of the road last night, she did what everyone in Newark does when they see a small problem they could probably solve themselves: tweeted at Newark Mayor Cory Booker.
Eyewitness News reporter Darla Miles retweeted Yates’ tweet to her followers. Naturally, when Booker saw the tweets, he showed up at the location where the dog was shaking from the freezing cold.
Booker spoke to the cameras: “This is brutal weather, this dog is shaking really bad and you just can’t leave your dogs out here on a day like this and go away and expect them to be okay. Hypothermia on any animal including a human animal will set in pretty quickly. So this is very sad, you can just feel the dog shaking pretty badly.”
Booker then called the dog’s owner who said he was in Queens and had no idea his dog Cha Cha was outside. Watch WABC‘s coverage of the event below:
