
It seems not so long ago that when you did a Google Image search for James Blake all you’d get were pictures of the former tennis star. It’s been a big couple years since the once-mysterious electronic maestro burst forth with his self-titled debut, having earned a spot as one of the most lauded artists in his genre.
His new track “Retrograde” premiered on BBC Radio 1 today, the first single from his follow-up album “Overgrown,” due out April 8. “Retrograde” shows a new side of James Blake—gone are the blip and bloops, and instead we find a lush production and an extra-soulful vocal performance that has him sounding just a touch like Antony Hegarty in places.
