Sonji Coney Williams was crusing at 60 miles per hour at night on the Florida Turnpike when she felt a thump in the front of her SUV and realized “Oh, my god, I hit a bird.” She didn’t notice that the bird wasn’t just any bird but a great horned owl until the next day, when she discovered those beaming eyes staring back at her.
“I was about to faint,” Williams told Miami Fox affiliate WSVN TV. “I’ve never experienced anything like this before in my life.”
A Florida Fish and Wildlife officer was called to the scene and released the owl by simply popping the hood of Williams’ sports utility vehicle.
