Meet the new Ninja Turtles
Whether or not you’re excited about the upcoming Michael Bay-produced “Ninja Turtles” movie, each time a new cast member is announced, children of the 90s can’t help but get excited (or defensive as the case may be). TMNTs were our after school heroes. We carried their lunch boxes. Who cares if they might be aliens this time around?
Anyway, we all heard Megan Fox will play April O’Neil, which seemed like a pretty non-threatening choice despite Peter Laird, co-creator of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic book, commenting on his blog, “I think it is safe to say that there are probably hundreds of better choices for the role of April O’Neil.” Seems a little harsh, but if anyone’s entitled to an opinion we guess it’s Laird.
Then last week we heard the part of Raphael would go to Alan Ritchson, the ex-underwear model who played Aquaman on The CW’s “Smallville.” No complaints from anyone there.
Monday Deadline disclosed casting for the remaining three Turtles. While the cast may seem less consequential for this kind of film, Deadline says “Ninja Turtles” will be shot using performance capture (a la Avatar), which means the actors won’t be as lost behind the effects as they would with bulky turtle costumes.
Here they are:
Raphael: Alan Ritchson
The ex-Abercrombie model, current stud muffin, played Aquaman in “Smallville” and will appear as Gloss in the upcoming “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.”
Donatello: Jeremy Howard
Howard’s resume ranges from a character named Sketchy in “Breaking Bad” to a variety of other small roles including “Hot Dog Man” in “Hotel for Dogs.”
Leonardo: Pete Ploszek
Ploszek appears to be fresh off the boat, with his only two credits on IMDB from small roles in “Parks and Recreation” and “Shameless.”
Michelangelo: Noel Fisher
Fischer played Mickey Milkovich on “Shameless” and Vladimir in “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2.”
