World’s worst news anchor fired for saying ‘fucking shit’ as his first words on air

Apr 22, 2013

A.J. Clemente was perhaps just not cut out to be a news anchor. After becoming internet-famous yesterday for saying the phrase “fucking shit” live on air as his very first words on the job, Clemente announced over Twitter that he’s been fired:

One thing he is not, however, is anti-gay. Some web sleuths accused Clemente of bigoted language because when the newscast cut in from commercial it sounded like he was saying the word “gay.” In fact, he was actually just practicing saying the name of the winner of the London Olympics. And apparently stressing the f*ck out about it.

A.J. isn’t alone is falling to the mighty swear: SNL alum Jenny Slate was booted from the cast in her first year in 2009 after she accidentally dropped the f-bomb in a set with Kristen Wiig.

But Slate did go on to prove there’s life after the f-word, enjoying success with her video, book and forthcoming TV show “Marcel the Shell.” Sounds like A.J. is already getting plenty of attention—his Twitter feed has gained thousand of new followers in the last 24 hours and he’s getting tweets from Deadspin and the Opie and Anthony radio show.

A.J. didn’t exactly sound like much of a news anchor outside the “fucking shit” debacle—he bumbled like a half-wit when his turn finally came to speak. But to be fair, I think most of us probably would if we realized we’d just said “fucking shit” on live TV and probably lost our jobs to boot. Watch the offending clip below.
