“The Decision” Is Currently Gripping the Nation

Not a big fan of midseason baseball? Looking for some gripping drama that is sure to make your sweltering summer days even hotter? Well you’re in luck because tomorrow at 9 p.m. eastern standard time (8 p.m. central) LeBron James will announce which city will best serve his dream to become a billionaire baller.

If the last seven days have taught us anything, it is that James is even better marketer of his brand than he is a basketball player. If you were unaware, he’s a pretty darn good basketball player. The news of his pending announcement has nearly stolen all of the attention away from the World Cup, MLB all-star game, Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, jobs, and life in general. This is an extremely important moment in sports history and King James is doing an excellent job of reminding everyone in the world just how important he is.

Will he show loyalty to his fans, the city of Cleveland, and the great state of Ohio by staying with the Cavaliers? Will he become the king of the big apple? Does he enjoy the nightlife in Miami? Is it possible for him to simultaneously devour deep-dish pizza and escape Michael Jordan’s shadow in Chi-town? Will he get an early jump on his inevitable foray into acting and outshine Kobe in his own building?

I could go on for days. There are endless amounts of questions being asked about “The Decision.” ESPN23 is being created solely for your latest up-to-the-minute news surrounding LeBron James’s life. Because I’m surely not the only one who needs to know when he’s feeling parched or playing Jenga with NBA franchises.

Tomorrow night SportCenter is dedicating three hours of coverage leading up to the earth-shattering event. The world is going to change tomorrow; our lives are hanging in the balance. It’s setting up to be a tragedy of Greek proportions with James chasing money instead of NBA immortality, or a heart warming tale where the homegrown son makes good and brings a championship to the banks of the Cuyahoga River.

In our information hungry age where we eat up tweets like cheese puffs, this is a defining moment for Generation-Twitter. This is more epic than watching Avatar on acid. The basketball season doesn’t start for another four months but make no mistake about it, this is more important than the any game this season. He can make a franchise and change a city. His Twitter account exists only to redirect fans to his website for more details on “The Decision.” He breathes fire and hunts Great White Sharks. He has no regard for human life. King James makes the Most Interesting Man in the World look like a lap dog.

Tomorrow we find out what lucky city and franchise gets LeBron James and his super human athletic ability. You will remember where you were when James became a Knick/Net/Clipper/Heater (?). You will Facebook about it, tweet about, text about it, and god knows how much we’ll talk about it. If it hasn’t completely taken over your life yet, it will. This is important, very important. (Just in case I haven’t made that point clear.)
