The 20 best songs ever played in ‘Breaking Bad’

Sep 20, 2013

There’s little doubt at this point that “Breaking Bad” is one of the best shows on television of all time—unless Gilligan and crew somehow inexplicably fuck it up in the final two episodes (maybe with a “the gang goes to Italy” episode?).

The quality of the show is, to my mind, in large part due to its excellent music selections. The tracks throughout the show’s run have so perfectly complimented the bleakness of the show, often with wonderfully dark humor. The show’s Music Supervisor Thomas Golubic (who also worked on “Six Feet Under”), deserves a tremendous amount of credit. Really, can anyone imagine a world without the “Crystal Blue Persuasion” montage at this point?

With only two episodes left, here’s a roundup of the best songs featured on the show so far, in order of season.

Season 1:

Darondo – “Didn’t I”

Gnarls Barkley – “Who’s Gonna Save My Soul”

Mick Harvey – “Out Of Time Man”

Ticklah – “Nine Years”

Season 2:

Alvin Red Tyler – “Peanut Vender”

Los Cuates De Sinaloa – “Negro Y Azul”

Season 3:

Los Zafiros – “He Venido”

The Association – “Windy”

Amboy Dukes – “Loaded For Bear”

Buddy Stuart – “In The Valley Of The Sun”

Stan Getz, Jimmy Raney, Terry Gibbs – “Lee”

Season 4:

Alexander – “Truth”

Ana Tijoux – “1977″

Apollo Sunshine – “We Are Born When We Die”
