Chelsea Handler on her next move: ‘Everything’s an option’
As soon as David Letterman announced his “Late Show” retirement earlier this month, Chelsea Handler’s name has roundly come up in discussions related to the late night wars. Even before Stephen Colbert was confirmed as Letterman’s successor, it was widely known that Handler’s relationship with E! was imploding, and so when she announced that she would be leaving “Chelsea Lately” it was no shocker.
And the rumor mill has since gone apey with possibilities of Handler taking over Craig Ferguson’s seat at “The Late Late Show,” which airs directly after “Late Show.” TMZ spotted an Instagram photo in Handler’s feed of her skimming through an untitled CBS script. On Sunday, Variety reported that Handler was “in talks” with Netflix for a series. And Ferguson, who has hosted “Late Late Show” for nearly 10 years, told his audience on Monday night that he would be leaving the show when he contract ends in December. So a replacement–Handler, the Dump Cakes lady, somebody–is inevitable for the CBS slot.
So what’s the real scoop with Handler? For now, at least according to her visit to “Conan” on Monday (video below) … nothing. The speculation continues.
“I haven’t made any decisions about what I’m doing,” Handler told Conan O’Brien. “Everything that is printed is a lie … Everything’s an option.”
