Latest tourism craze is called ‘logging’: Pooping in the pool

Anytime the media refers to something as a “new craze,” we’re always a little skeptical. Especially when said craze sounds like urban legend fodder.

So, when a newspaper reported that “a revolting new craze” is sweeping various vacation resorts where “rowdy teens, students and boozed up Brits” are deliberately pooping in swimming pools. Despite the fact that this act of fecal terrorism has been given a name, “logging,” we’re still holding out hope that this is something that happened once or twice and was wildly blown out of proportion. Our faith in basic human decency kind of depends on it.

Unfortunately, “logging” has happened often enough at the Egyptian resort Holiday Village Red Sea that the management had to create a policy issuing heavy fines as well as an eviction to pool-poopers.

And that is no small fine. Anyone caught soiling the pool will have to pay the equivalent of about 2,353 in American dollars.

This is a letter that an actual grown-up had to write and then distribute to other grown-ups.

Swimming in contaminated waters is obviously a public health risk and people who have come in contact with fecal matter while swimming have contracted serious and sometimes life threatening infections.

Travel law expert Nick Harris said that the “‘worrying’ craze has taken off in the last few years. We have dealt with hundreds of cases where people have been left seriously ill. Some idiots think it is humorous to deliberately poo in a crowded pool and then sit back and watch the carnage unfold as people try to escape the pool like a panic scene from the film Jaws.”

Actually, the movie this troubling trend brings to mind for us is “Caddyshack,” but point taken.

Instances of “logging” have also been known to occur in resorts all over Europe and in Turkey. According to Daily Mail,”Pools at Holiday Village Turkey in Sarigerme, Turkey have been closed up to nine times in the last few weeks due to floating feces.”

Hopefully, the heavy fines manage to deter the rogue poopers, because having a resort vacation ruined like this is a real turd in the punchbowl.
