Jersey Shore Rings Opening Bell at NYSE: Hilariousness Ensues

This winter MTV took an East Coast subculture and made it a phenomenon.

I’d be willing to guess that about 80% of the “The Jersey Shore’s” audience watch the show for a good laugh. But there is a percentage of people that idolize the cast and even dream to one day “beat the beat” as hard as they do. These same people are the reason Ed Hardy, Affliction and GNC stock have been rising steadily since the show’s premiere.

After The Situation, Snookie, DJ Pauly D and the rest of the crew left Seaside, many thought this special group of Italian-Americans would be long forgotten by now. They thought wrong.

This thursday the second season of the “Jersey Shore” will debut, and if the trailer is any indication, there is a chance it could be better than the first.

We can be sure to expect a lot of publicity stunts this week. This morning the cast rang the opening bell of the New York Stock Exchange, and the unintentional comedy was unparalleled.

Lets break it down (from left to right):

Michael “The Situation” Sorrentino: The sunglasses-indoors look has been a staple of the “Jersey Shore” family — today was no different. Peering over his designer shades unto what he most certainly believes is a crowd of loyal followers he seems unsure how to pose. “Should I point at the NYSE sign? Nah, I’ll just give the peace sign with a badass look on my face. Shit, that doesn’t work either. I’ll just cozy up real close behind Ronny and… Ah, fuck it. I’m just gonna pop my shirt off.”

Ronnie Ortiz-Magro: First off, I don’t think his dress shirt collar was wide enough. He definitely should have found one that reached his shoulders. You can tell he despises standing next to Sammi, as he continually waves his hand in front of her face to ruin her photo-op. Ronnie puts some serious effort into trying to perfect his one armed lean on the banister. He’s also very unsure of himself with his fist pump.

Sammi “Sweetheart” Giancola: The only thing she is concerned about right now is her hair extensions.

Paul “DJ Pauly D” DelVecchio: Without question the MVP for the NYSE opening-bell ceremony. Let’s start with how he still fits into the same tuxedo he wore for senior prom and exudes class. Secondly, he seems genuinely excited to be there. Was he the president of the Stock Exchange Club in high school? Or was he just still drunk from the night before? He’s grinning ear to ear, and his fist pump tells us: “Yes! I’ve finally accomplished my lifelong dream of standing next to a munchkin while she rings the opening bell at the NYSE. Life is good. Nasdaq is next, bitches.”

Nicole “Snookie” Polizzi: You can tell how anxious she is to press this button, as if she is on “Double Dare” or “Family Feud”. (By the way, how awesome would it be to have the cast of “Jersey Shore” on “Family Feud”? Al Borland, Louie Anderson, or whoever is hosting that show should be on the phone right now.) Snickers is definitely thinking about how she invented the “non-poof” hairstyle, a.k.a. the normal-human-being look.

Vinny Guadagnino: Yeah, he’s definitely too smart for this. He’s dressed like he’s having a casual day on the campaign trail. He’s probably the only person up there who understands the gravity of the moment. However, he still feels the need to throw in a fist pump, you know, for the fans. The awkward hug with Jwow is also wonderful.

Jenni “Jwow” Farley: She looks like she really tried to look professional, but she ended up looking like a professional of the “film industry.” She looks like a porn star dressed as a secretary. Her clap was especially funny. Notice the careful effort to not break a nail.

Angelina “Jolie” Pivarnick: She does great things. She’s a bartender. Well, watch how none of the cast members acknowledge her existence.
