Of all the stupid reasons ever argued for banning gay marriage A new study is a big win for rational humans and fans of common sense everywhere: children of gay parents exhibit the same behavior as children of straight parents.
It’s such a condescending notion to assume that someone of a different sexual persuasion than your own is somehow making a lifestyle choice rather than acting according to an innate wiring. Everybody has innate wiring.
Thankfully, Salon reports today that a new study from Applied Developmental Science that effectively proves you can’t turn your kid gay. (How did it take this long to do this study, btw?)
“Regardless of whether they had one mother and one father, two mothers, or two fathers, children were thriving,” the study says, and showed “no significant differences … on measures of internalizing, externalizing, or total behavior problems.” It’s also true that “most boys exhibited behavior typical of other same-aged boys, and most girls exhibited behavior typical of other same-aged girls.”
The study surveyed the children of 56 gay and lesbian couples and 50 straight couples. One would hope that this kind of study would put fears to rest and end the irrational xenophobia that allows civil rights violations to be doled out to gay people.
But we’re not talking about rational people, here. It’s highly likely that mere “facts” can get in the way of that moral barometer that trumps all else in the right wing—gut. Unless it’s a gay gut, of course.
