‘Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World’ Interactive Trailer Goes Live

A new “interactive trailer” for Scott ‘Pilgrim Vs. The World’ went live today. As easy as it is to scoff at the word “interactive” as an over-stigmatized, under-delivering platitude, the interactive trailer is actually pretty cool.

As far as we know it’s the first interactive trailer of its kind. The basic idea is that it takes the recently released full-length trailer (which contains what may be Jason Schwatzman’s first-ever fight scene) and packs all kinds of secondary and tertiary info on top of it.

Viewers can click anywhere on the screen for a secondary stream of info about a particular character, action shot, etc. The updates look something like a cross between a VH-1 pop-up video and a Twitter feed. But what makes it really interesting is that some of the update content contains hyperlinked meta-content that will automatically stop the trailer mid-play and launch you into a tangent about whatever you’ve clicked on, and seamlessly return you to playback when it’s over. No weird buffering, no glitches in the matrix.

Universal has done an outstanding job marketing Scott Pilgrim, the soundtrack looks boss, and the interactive trailer, which initially sounded like pure gimmickry, is actually pretty cool. We only have one question left: Why wasn’t this thing shot in 3-D?
