Can you spot the attribution in this story BuzzFeed allegedly ripped from The Advocate?
BuzzFeed News currently has a #trending story, published on July 30, about a toddler who loves a personal injury lawyer so much, his mom made it his birthday theme. It’s a good funny story.
What’s weird, though, is that The Acadiana Advocate published the same story on July 29. It was then picked up by The Wall Street Journal’s Law Blog. Surely, BuzzFeed included a link to the original piece, right? Let’s try to find it!
Is it here, underneath these numbers announcing that this particular piece of content is garnering them a great deal of traffic?
No, weird… Wait, hold on, that looks like a link! Phew!
Oh, nope, it just goes to a Morris Bart’s website.
No links here …
Or here, at the very bottom …
Damn, not a single link to the original post. Is this plagiarism? Sloppy aggregation? Transformative content?
Anyway, BuzzFeed is about to close a $250 million deal with NBC Universal. LOL.

Update: BuzzFeed has added a hat tip to the post.
