Better to Guest Star Than Fade Away

By Braden Rosner Friday, November 13, 2009

gavinvamp_281I just saw Gavin Rossdale on some shitty run-of-the-mill cop drama.

Gavin Rossdale, the same frontman of Bush whose 1994 album Sixteen Stones would become a monumental purchase for the my naive 7-year-old self. The same Gavin Rossdale who’s been getting dirty with Gwen Stefani since her Tragic Kingdom days. He used to be to ’90s music what Skeet Ulrich was to mediocre ’90s films. When an entire decade was rebounding from the loss of Kurt Cobain, who answered the call? Gavin Fucking Rossdale, that’s who. Now look at him. He’s playing the frontman of some stupid vampire goth band on Criminal Minds. The band resembles some sort of brutal hybrid between Guns N’ Roses and The Misfits–like if Axel and Danzig raised a love child together. Except, you know, with strobe lights. Did I mention Rossdale’s character also thinks he’s a vampire? That’s still cool, right? Oh, good–the guy from Dharma and Greg is in this show too. Ugh, the one who played Greg–not that tall dude who played Dharma. It’s official, primetime is where our musicians of yesteryear come to die. I wonder if years down the road we’ll get to see someone like Julian Casablancas guest starring on CSI: New Haven? Now that’s a career suicide I’d watch.
