San Diego art-punks Crocodiles have been busy.
Their sophomore LP “Sleep Forever” comes out September 14 on Fat Possum. The lead single/title track off of the album might be one of the best songs to come out this summer, they just announced a headlining tour with Brooklyn’s Golden Triangle, and today they just released a 4-song EP titled “Fires Of Comparison.”
“Fires of Comparison” was released today on Fat Possum’s website and features a more laid back sound than is customary for the band, with no vocals. The reasoning for the lack of vocals, the band explains, is that they caught strep throat from sharing a pipe with a hobo in San Diego’s Presidio Park. Believe what you want, but I’ve spent a little time with these guys and this story seems as likely to me as anything else.
The opening track is a big “fuck you” to the toughest sheriff in the land. “Kill Joe Arpaio” sounds most like the Crocodiles that garnered critical attention for their debut LP. The only difference that is instead of standard vocals, they use samples from the megalomaniac himself. The rest of the EP is more laid back and synth-heavy.
Crocodiles will be touring in support of their new LP, hitting the east coast, then going south ending it in Texas at Fun Fun Fun Fest.
