ELO’s Mike Edwards was killed by a hay bale in England this weekend.
Mike Edwards, an early member of ELO, present at the band’s first-ever concert, was killed this weekend by a hay bale in England, according to the BBC.
Edwards was driving his van on a rural highway when a “600kg bale fell from a tractor on nearby farmland before rolling on to the road” and killing him instantly.
It’s always a shame when anyone dies in a tragic accident, but there’s a special irony reserved for those who live through that which would challenge mortality, only to perish by some freak accident later in life.
As an early member of seminal psych-rock band ELO, Edwards likely indulged in enough hard drugs to tempt anyone’s brain into just giving up. I mean, we are talking about a guy who gained notoriety for playing a cello with a grapefruit.
Edwards, 62, was apparently a talented musician in all genres, from classical to rock. According to the BBC he was scheduled to perform with medieval folk band Daughters of Elvin in Totnes over the weekend.
Regardless, Edwards was identified by police using band photos and YouTube footage of ELO, showing that no matter how talented you might be, Rock And Roll is what immortalizes you.

Pity that Mike Edwards isn't even in that photo of ELO posted above. Please do your research before posting photos.
