Trump campaign accepts Manafort’s resignation, but everything’s totally fine!

Donald Trump’s campaign chairman Paul Manafort resigned on Friday following news of his ties to the Ukraine, but definitely not because of the campaign shakeup earlier this week. No way. It’s all fine!

“This morning Paul Manafort offered, and I accepted, his resignation from the campaign,” Trump wrote in a statement Friday. “I am very appreciative for his great work in helping to get us where we are today, and in particular his work guiding us through the delegate and convention process. Paul is a true professional and I wish him the greatest success.”

The Washington Post’s Robert Costa tweeted that a “close associate” of Manafort’s corroborated that he was leaving on good terms.

Mic further reports that a source close to Manafort claims that “Trump stopped listening to him and Manafort refused to just go along for the ride.”

This follows Trump hiring Breitbart’s Steve Bannon as campaign CEO and promoting Kellyanne Conway to campaign manager — a move that was seen as an informal demotion for Manafort. Hopefully, Corey Lewandowski, who left earlier this summer to work at CNN, will be able to hook Manafort up with a sweet gig as a political commentator. I am personally very excited for their upcoming podcast, tentatively titled “Says Who?

Now, let us all gather together and watch this montage of various members of the campaign denying that any of this shaking up has been a shakeup.
