That time Adam West got kicked out of an orgy

Comedian Gilbert Gottfried spoke to the New York Post to promote a live taping of  “Gilbert Gottfried’s Amazing Colossal Podcast!,”a show that celebrates vintage TV and film.

Gottfried discussed the candor of the old-timey actors who have appeared on the show and Adam West of the campy ’60s iteration of Batman came up. It might shock you to learn that West was up to his armpit in caped crusader groupies back in the day, but that’s probably not the most noteworthy part of the interview. “Adam West, TV’s original Batman, said he and Frank Gorshin, who played the Riddler, were once kicked out of an orgy together,” Gottfried said. “I think because they weren’t taking it too seriously.”

The orgy story is a classic in West’s arsenal of Hollywood tales. He mentions it in his memoir “Back to the Batcave” and he frequently brings it up as a fond memory of his old coworker.

“Well, I think one of my favorite memories is that Frank and I were invited to a party one night and we decided to go, a Hollywood party we didn’t know anything about. We were kind of laughing and having a few beers and said, ‘Let’s go over there,'” West said in a 2014 interview with Blastr.  “We walked in … and it was an orgy. So I immediately went into the Batman character, and Frank went into the Riddler character, because we were getting the big giggles. It was so funny to us, what we walked into. And we were kicked out. We were expelled from the orgy.”

Apparently West and Gorshin were no Bob Crane and John Carpenter.

Gottfried made sure to ask West about the longstanding urban legend about Cesar Romero who played The Joker. Apparently, Romero, who was gay, enjoyed having orange wedges chucked at his bare ass by young men. Gottfried is singularly obsessed with verifying this and brings it up on his podcast quite often.

West never confirmed the rumor, but did remark that Romero was a very talented and humble actor, which is nice, but ZZZzzzzzz…
