The Japano-philes come out once again from Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlitt’s cartoon band.
This time in the new Gorillaz single “Doncamatic”, whose name comes from an Japanese synthesizer made in the early 1960s.
Despite their disappointing comeback album “Plastic Beach,” evil genius Damon Albarn churns out a deceptively poppy tune with a lead vocal from the British singer/songwriter Daley. The generic sounding vocal is balanced by the primitive digital sound of the 8-bit midi-based chord progression. Perhaps this striking contrast was intentional — or maybe the over 20 years of massive drug and alcohol consumption have finally caught up with the Blur front-man’s vocal chords.

Oh wow… Disappointing comeback album? completely False! Now lets take the Gorillaz for what they are. A Complex Constantly Changing Genre of music. Based around an intricate story line. with a diverse set of instruments. The vocals in this song are sung by Daley(look her up btdubs shes hot shit in the uk right now). Taken from what I've said, i'd say that the gorillaz are musical geniuses and completely unique ones at that.

Wow…just wow…I can't believe I even read this article. It is EXTREMELY poorly written, and incorrect. “Doncamatic” is simple, yet brilliant catchy pop tune, that is NOT sung by Albarn; the song feature Daley, a new, young and talented British pop/soul singer. Albarn sings very little – just a hook on the chorus, wailing the lyrics, “Talk to me, talk to me…”. Get your facts straight. Also, this amature/lame website doesn't even deserve to rate music albums. How was this a disapointing album?? Oh yeah, that's right, it wasn't. Plastic Beach has won numerous awards, and was highly successful, both critically and commercially. It is an amazing blend of pop, hip-hop, alternative, electric music, and many other musical styles, including Middle Eastern and orchestral. Whoever wrote this pathetic little article needs to…well…stop writing articles. I doubt more than 5 people have read this unnecessary “review”. No wonder this shit site is so obscure.

To all the commenters, don't forget how brilliant Demon Days was. Plastic Beach had quite the act to follow and while it was good and had some amazing tracks, on the whole it was just not as iconic, memorable, cohesive, or successful as Demon Days was. I was disappointed too with Plastic Beach.. but its okay because it was still great. I will say though that Doncamatic is better than most of the tracks on Plastic Beach. Kinda un-Gorillaz sounding, but nonetheless a fantastic track I will be keeping on repeat for the forseeable future.

I personally believe Plastic Beach to be the best album of the year, I don't think Albarn's vocals have been affected by the.. ahem, “20 years of massive drug and alcohol consumption”, and I think Doncamatic is one of singles of the year. Oh, I also think the vocal is fantastic, Daley will be the next biggest thing, and Gorillaz will go from strength to strength. I also think that the “journalist” who wrote this should hang his/her head in shame, as this piece is an absolute failure to recognize Damon as one of the most forward-thinking musicians of our generation.
But that's just my opinion.

Charlie Weeks, I was thinking of writing something about the perfection of Plastic Beach and the genius of Damon Albarn, but all I can think of now is an insult – you are a stupid man.
