Apple announced this morning that the iPad, the most advanced and coveted device in the history of the world, will be sold at Verizon Wireless stores nationwide, starting Oct. 28.
The Verizon iPad will be available with Verizon’s MiFi mobile hotspot modem, which would give users easy internet access without the need of connecting to a wireless modem. The MiFi technology carries with it an addition $130 to the original price of the iPad, plus a fee starting at $20 per month for one gigabyte.
The new partnership between Verizon and Apple is a monumental one, that should send a wave of panic at AT&T who have dealt exclusively with Apple since the release of the iPhone. Complaints about AT&T’s iPhone service have been very public and plentiful, with most of the blame being tossed towards AT&T.
The question is will Apple continue their new partnership with the iPhone and help Verizon users get laid too?
The iPhone is easily, for lack of a better term, the coolest phone on the market and has been since its release in 2007. To use an extremely out-of-date and asinine Harry Potter metaphor it’s like AT&T users are flying around on Lighting Bolts and Verizon users are stuck with the Nimbus 2000. There is nothing wrong with flying on Nimbi—they’re fast brooms, functional and stylish, but they’re no Lighting Bolt.
And while users seemed to be a little confused about exactly what they’d need it for, iPad is the now fastest-adopted electronic gear in history.
The Verizon iPad looks to be some sort of Apple test-run with Verizon, like a first date or get-to-know period, to see if they really do have the nation’s best service. Ideally after a couple months of courtship, fancy dinners, heavy petting, and a little sexting, maybe Apple will finally give up the goods and let Verizon users into the cool kids club.
Until then, Verizon users will continue to have the iPhone blueballs, but it’s an important step in the right direction.
