Trey Gowdy, so concerned about leaks, leaked name of CIA source during Benghazi hearings
Not even 30 minutes after James Comey confirmed during a House Intelligence Committee hearing Monday that there is currently an investigation into a sitting president’s possible collusion with foreign agents, Republican representative Trey Gowdy spent his time asking the FBI director not about this explosive revelation, but the importance of federally prosecuting leaks to the press.

The South Carolina congressman was specifically concerned with whether former nat sec adviser Michael Flynn’s rights as a citizen were violated when information about his improper and possibly illegal phone conversations with a Russian ambassador before Donald Trump’s inauguration. It was a line of questioning laid out by the president himself early Monday morning via Twitter, and seems to be the administration’s chosen defense against Comey’s testimony regarding the FBI’s investigation into the Trump campaign.
The real story that Congress, the FBI and all others should be looking into is the leaking of Classified information. Must find leaker now!

At one point, Representative Gowdy took another cue from the president and began alluding 🎶 without evidence 🎶 that former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, former CIA Director John Brennan, former national security adviser Susan Rice, former White House staffer Ben Rhodes, former Attorney General Loretta Lynch, former acting Attorney General Sally Yates, and President Obama himself may have been the source of the leaks about Flynn.
Unfortunately, Gowdy could not get Comey to confirm that the FBI was or ever would be investigating any leaks regarding Flynn or the ongoing investigation into the Trump-Russia affair.

Considering his intense grilling of Director Comey on the illegality of leaks, it’s interesting that Gowdy seemed to forget that he himself leaked the name of a classified CIA source during the Benghazi hearings in 2015.
House Benghazi Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy appears to have accidentally released the name of a CIA source in the midst of a back-and-forth with Democrats about how sensitive the information was and whether its presence in former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s private email account constituted a security breach…
The email posted Sunday on the panel’s website included in one instance the name of “Mousa Kousa,” an alternative spelling of Moussa Koussa, a former Libyan government spy chief and foreign minister. The name appeared to have been redacted in several other instances but was included in a subject line of a forwarded email.
Gowdy blamed the leak on the State Department, which he claimed had not properly redacted the email. Good thing for the representative that he isn’t a reporter — I hear disseminating classified info is a prosecutable offense.
