John Oliver calls ‘turbo bullshit’ on Comey’s firing, calls on Congress to intervene

John Oliver has never met a Trump scandal he didn’t want to skewer. On Sunday’s episode of “Last Week Tonight With John Oliver,” the outspoken host/comedian dedicated nearly 10 minutes of his show calling bullshit — or, more accurately, “turbo bullshit” — on Trump’s firing of FBI Director James “Showboat” Comey.

“Everything about Comey’s firing was unusual,” Oliver began. “From the fact that he himself found out about it from TV, to the termination letter — which was genuinely weird. And not just because it featured Trump’s signature, which looks like a heart rate monitor of a hamster on meth.”

Most puzzling to Oliver was Trump’s written assertion, in that termination letter, that Comey had assured the president “on three separate occasions” that he was not under investigation.

While the question remains as to what will happen next, Oliver called on congress to take action, saying that, “The Founding Fathers created a system of checks and balances to limit the power of the President, but it only works if someone fucking checks, or balances. And if you don’t , it’s no longer on Trump. it’s on you.”
