CMJ Day 2: Pigeons Live at Pianos

The Bronx trio play a mix of trippy dreamscape psychedelia with lots of reverb and seductive Mazzy Star-style vocals.

After seeing the Cassette Kids at The Delancey I had some time to kill before heading to Bowery Electric. I popped in Cake Shop, which was mobbed, then went next door to check out the CMJ shows at Pianos. I checked out the The Showroom which was suspiciously un-mobbed.  I walked into a quirky duo playing some seriously sexy atmospheric tunes.

The Pigeons are Clark Griffin, Wednesday Knudsen and Carter Thornton. Imagine Mazzy Star with a touch more reverb whispering to psychedelic guitars and a drum machine. The Pigeons were captivating. Singer Wednesday Knudsen’s vocals are seductively haunting creating an intoxicating dreamlike mood.

Think of riding through the middle of the desert in a David Lynch film—you would hear The Pigeons playing.

Check out their 2009 7″ from Soft Abuse titled “Lunettes.”
