Zach Galifianakis on the Other Side of ‘Between Two Ferns’

Zach Galifianakis is still the man.

I don’t care what anyone says—I still love Zach Galifianakis. Even if he did kill Mel Gibson’s cameo in “The Hangover 2.” He’s everything that Jack Black was supposed to be but wasn’t—our generation’s version of the sad, out-of-sorts funny guy who finds a way of making even the most banal lines strange and bizarre. If he finds a way to get more debonair as he gets older, he may even turn out to be our generation’s Bill Murray.

But Zach Galifianakis‘s special talent is to actually make those around him seem funnier. When has Bradley Cooper ever been so funny except next to Galifianakis in “The Hangover”? This is what makes “Between Two Ferns” such a perfect medium for him—even MIchael Cera is funny sitting across from Galifianakis.

Which makes it even more amazing when Gordon Keith from “Good Morning Texas” turns the tables on Galifianakis in a new interview to discuss Galifianakis’s film, “It’s Kind Of A Funny Story.” He prompts Galifianakis to compare “It’s Kind Of A Funny Story” to every film ever made.

It’s a little hard to tell whether this was spontaneous or whether Galifianakis knew it was coming, but Keith does an amazing job of playing the joke with a straight face. Galifianakis, for his part, could have done more with the joke, pretty much stopping at blank incredulity, but he does look sincerely shocked. It’s not quite the Steve Carrell appearance on Between Two Ferns, but it’s enough to reaffirm that Zach Galifianakis is still the man (and enough to make us wish we could watch “Good Morning Texas”—something we never thought’d we’d say.)
