Lil’ Wayne jumps on Birdman’s “Fire Flame (Remix)” and delivers a solid comeback track.
There had been plenty rumors circulating the web that Lil Wayne’s first post-Rikers song would be something like a “2010 version of ‘A Milli’ on steroids.” While “Fire Flame (Remix)” isn’t quite that, it does deliver some of Weezy’s much missed ingenious wordplay.
Lil’ Wayne unsurprisingly gave his first song to mentor/father-figure Birdman. On “Fire Flame (Remix)”, the rapper jumps on Birdman’s newest single and delivers two solid verses. Actually, if you fast forward through Birdman’s horrible raps like I usually do, “Fire Flame (Remix)” is easily one of the better hip-hop releases this year.
Post-jail Weezy sounds revitalized and eager to prove why many consider him to be the best rapper out there. On the track, he spits lines reminiscent of his golden era “Carter II” days like “Don’t fuck with me at all ’cause I am twisted like in aerobics (pause) cube,” (get it? Rubik’s cube) as well as, “and if you got problems with I/ well I will fix them cataracts/ They say it costs to be the boss/ I pay the price including tax/ Bitch I’m a fire flame spitter and to me you n____s wax.”
Judging from this track and the leak off Dr. Dre’s “Detox,” it looks like 2011 might be a good year for rap.
And, to all the cynics who brush off Lil’ Wayne as another banal mainstream rapper, I urge you give him a shot. Even Obama listens to Weezy.
