Suicide in Disney Town

No town can escape death, not even this one.

The 14 years of homeowner perfection in the Disney Town, Celebration, Florida was horribly usurped on Thursday by a suicide which followed a murder two days before.

Celebration, which is a town that was exclusively made for the Walt Disney World Resort and The Walt Disney Company executives and their families is seeming to be a bit more like Compton rather than Pleasantville these days.

Celebration’s sunny weather, well-pruned shrubbery and brightly painted houses provides an eerie backdrop for an unsolved murder and a 14-hour standoff between police and a resident, Craig Foushee, that ended in multiple shots on police and a suicide.

Divorce and a failed security business caused Foushee to unleash wrath in an otherwise saintly community and prompting a fellow resident to say, “Just because this is Celebration doesn’t mean everyone’s prefect.”

I find that disappointing. I don’t want to accept imperfections in anyone living in a town named Celebration who are working for Disney.

But alas, resident Katie Sobczewski states, “Everyone calls it the bubble here. You don’t want people to pop your bubble.”

And much like a Disney movie I imagine everyone in Celebration will experience an existential crisis due to these tragedies, struggle but find themselves, and assume a far greater fate than they could have ever imagined. Of course, it will all end in fireworks.
