Noise Pop Film Festival Line-Up

In addition to the noteworthy acts featured in the musical portion of the festival, like the Magnetic Fields, Atlas Sound, !!!, and Mirah, just to name a few, some intriguing-looking films have been selected to be showcased as well.  They’re all music-based documentaries, but they focus on disparate mindsets and experiences within the musical world.

P-Star Rising, a film about a nine-year-old rapper named Priscilla (!), examines her performances and talent, whether at a sold-out show or on the street. This fresh, youthful film is the inverse of Downtown Calling, which is a look at the musical history of New York City in the late 1970s, with appearances by Debbie Harry, Fab 5 Freddy, and sundry other musicians who lend their stories to the film.

Blood Into Wine is the story of ex-Tool and current tool Maynard James Keenan’s awful wine.  Trust me, I tried it with a group of about ten people, and we were all repulsed.  It tastes like grapes dunked in nail polish.  The friend whose bottle it was said that when he went to go and have it signed by Maynard at a liquor store, he had an excessive amount of bodyguards and wasn’t allowing fans to take pictures of him.  Charming!

Christopher Pomerenke’s The Heart Is A Drum Machine looks significantly more interesting.  It looks for possible answers to the question of why humans make music in a well-researched, fascinating manner.  Some actors and talking heads also make appearances, such as Jason Schwartzman and Kurt Loder.

Tickets are on sale now.
