National Hugging Day, officially founded in 1986, asks nothing more of participants than the exchange of a hug. A friend, a faux; there’s no one that couldn’t benefit from a good squeeze. 2008′s Most Huggable People included professional soccer players Dean Ruddy and Ross Smith, who set a new Guinness World Record in June 2007 for the highest number of hugs in a 24 hour period (4, 288).
