Conan O'Brien's Final Tonight Show, Tonight
By Simon Rich Friday, January 22, 2010
On Thursday, January 21st, NBC and current Tonight Show host, Conan O’Brien, reached an agreement that will end his short stint as host of “The Tonight Show.” After weeks of finger-pointing about ratings and general disarray between the two parties and Jay Leno, O’Brien’s contract was finally bought out by NBC for $32.5 million, meaning his last show is tonight.
Tonight’s show will mark the end of a decorated partnership between O’Brien and the network, dating back to 1988 when O’Brien was hired as a writer for Saturday Night Live. It also marks the end of a two week run in which the host took countless, hilarious shots at Jay Leno and NBC, and in general, had a much more liberated show with over-the-top antics.
The final show has confirmed guests Tom Hanks, Will Ferrell and Neil Young but viewers can expect a wide array of surprise appearances as well. Enjoy one last night of Conan O’Brien as ‘The Tonight Show” host, though we all know his future in television is far from over.
