The man that brought you “Me So Horny,” “The Fuck Shop,” and “Pop that Pussy,” could very well be the next mayor of Miami.
Luther Campbell, a.k.a Luke, is running for mayor of Miami-Dade County. The former rapper turned New Times columnist and high school football coach looks to unseat Mayor Carlos Alvarez who is facing a recall election on March 15th.
Campbell is taking the election seriously and promises complete transparency if elected. When asked why he was running, Campbell told reporters:
“I’m mad frustrated. I get in my car, ride around Liberty City, and everything looks the same as when I was in the neighborhood growing up. I see the same crimes in the same areas. Officers and residents are still getting killed in the community I grew up in. I go to a city like Atlanta that has sensible affordable housing, and no one is being murdered. I go to Miami International Airport and see the same construction that has been going on for, like, a hundred years. All of that frustrates the hell out of me. Why aren’t we getting it right in Miami-Dade? Why is our government only serving one set of people? That’s what is pushing me to run.”
Campbell wants to lower taxes, increase affordable housing, and find money for more local parks. Raising money for his initiatives will not be a problem as Campbell plans on taxing strippers.
“I think we can stimulate the economy with a tax on strippers. They make all this money and don’t pay taxes. I’d take that cash and put it into a fund where it supports youth athletics for girls, like cheerleading or softball.”
Chris Paul, a producer with the Tom Joyner Show on FM Radio Hot 105 has written a rap song for Campbell’s campaign. “Y’all remember Uncle Luke from his days with 2 Live Crew. He made a star of that fat Chinese dude. Imagine what he can do for you. Luke wants to do his public duty, representing voters with big ole booties. Luke for Mayor! Luke, Luke for Mayor!”

Having once worked as Mr. Campbell’s personal assistant in the 90′s, I always felt that he was underrated for his business savvy, his intelligence and his concern for the community. He has always cared about and supported the overlooked and undercared for in Miami-Dade. I feel that he will truly fight for the better of the community like none before him. He has my support and my vote.

how is he going to both decrease taxes and increase affordable housing? … I get the feeling he doesn’t really know much about the details of such things work.
