Osama bin Laden took a break from his typical insanity today to blast an international enemy even President Obama loathes: climate change. Though his uninspired solutions only reinforce bin Laden’s image as a madman who’s entirely out of touch with reality, they at least make him look better than some of our elected officials. How shameful!
Despite his new green-tinted initiative, bin Laden’s still the same maniac who’s hell bent on destroying the States and its industrialized allies. In the video, which aired on the Al Qaeda’s go-to network, Al Jazeera, bin Laden claims that destroying “the wheels of the American economy,” rather than, say, green energy, will help stave off environmental disaster. Therefore, he urges his allies to boycott our goods, as if they’re buying American because the dollar, must be buried, as its demise represents “the only means to liberate humanity from slavery and dependence on America.” That’s an interesting stance, considering that bin Laden and his family made billions of dollars via the oil industry, an industry that’s far more responsible for climate change than any other. And, in another strike against him, bin Laden obviously hasn’t considered the environmental impact of his bombings and other terrorist attacks, like 9/11, which released asbestos and other toxic materials into the air.
But, never mind: bin Laden’s never been the most sensible person. Yet, unlike some conservative lawmakers and activists, like those in the Tea Party, bin Laden’s with it enough to maintain that “speaking about climate change is not a matter of intellectual luxury – the phenomenon is an actual fact.” That’s more than one can say about conservative lawmakers, such Joe Barton.
Republican Barton, a ranking member of the House’s Committee on Energy and Commerce, describes climate change as a “natural variation” and remains convinced that “it’s inevitable humanity will adapt to global warming.” How can we adapt, you might ask? By finding shade, of course!
The President’s cap-and-trade legislation, insists Barton, would wreak havoc on our economy, a stance he shares with the most right wing of the political spectrum – Tea Party activists. They also oppose climate change legislation. In fact, Tea Party activists just this month, along with Arizona State Sen. Sylvia Allen, protested against energy corporations whom owe it to the nation to fight climate change legislation.
According to Allen, “coal is clean, our technology is phenomenal. Those utilities should be helping us fight this battle and should not be saying to me the [climate change] debate is over. It is bad science.” Well, not even bin Laden thinks so, and he lives in a cave! Though his tactics are less-than-traditional (and more than murderous), bin Laden at least realizes climate change threatens us all, a stance that complicates matters for all those global warming deniers.
Right-wing politicians and candidates could, in theory, use bin Laden’s support for climate change to bolster their ignorant platforms: “Only mad men like bin Laden believe in climate change!” Such proposals makes them look even more outdated than a man who lives in a cave, which isn’t a good move in an election year. More than simple politics, however, bin Laden’s video tape offers a sad indictment of our nation as a whole.
This man, who has made it his mission to destroy us, has become more concerned with Mother Earth’s well being than many of our election officials. Sure, his tactics are a bit over dramatic, but bin Laden’s latest message proves at least one thing: our nation needs to pump less money into coal and foreign oil, and more money into domestic education, especially science. We can’t have future generations getting being intellectually bested by our number one nemesis. Our Founding Fathers would roll over in their graves!
