Stream Jamie xx’s steel drum-tinged track and download “In the Mix for BBC Radio.”
Jamie xx, the only non-singing member of The xx has had quite a last two years as a producer. In 2010, his “You Got The Love” remix garnered widespread acclaim, not to mention his group’s 2009 self-titled debut release “xx” — for which Jamie is credited as sole producer.
Recently, Jamie xx’s taken on the task of re-conceptualizing Gil Scott-Heron‘s latest album into the spoken word meets post-dub “We’re New Here” — we posted the excellent “NY is Killing Me” remix a few weeks ago.
This guy’s got the talent to create some truly fresh dance music — and these two new beats make us wish we could be at an underground club in South London every night of the week.
“Far Nearer” is a steel drum-tinged, hazy summer beat [wait until 1:30 for the drop]. And the BBC mix showcases the producer’s many fine remixes along with tracks by his multiple influences. Check them both out below.
