Superbowl Commercials Sponsored by Other Commericals?
By Johnny Sanford Monday, February 08, 2010
So anyone that is familiar with the “charming” commercials that cost upwards of a $3,000,000 for 30 seconds of airtime on the Superbowl knows that a hell of a lot of energy goes into a small period of time.
But what about the “great” commercials of the past? Shouldn’t we be able to see them again, like old friends trapped like ghosts of our past? Lucky for you, advertisers are willing to pay good money so that you can see your favorite old Superbowl commercials.
Finally, someone has heard my wish!
This past Saturday evening, commercials from the past were given the royal treatment, and the audience was polled to find the “Best Superbowl Commercial of All Time.”
The following were the three finalists for “top honors,” according to CBS.
* Apple’s legendary “1984″ spot, directed by Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Ridley Scott, which was broadcast exclusively during the 1984 contest between the Los Angeles Raiders and Washington Redskins
* Reebok’s “Terry Tate” campaign, which debuted during the 2003 game and featured a hulking “office linebacker” who blitzed and sacked hapless office workers
* Coca-Cola’s “Mean Joe Greene” ad, which made its Super Bowl debut in 1980 and featured the imposing Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle softening his gruff exterior after a young fan offered him a cold bottle of Coke following a particularly tough day on the gridiron
That’s it folks, we’ve finally made it! Commercials now have value as content in-and-of themselves.
God Bless America. For those of you who need to see the latest and greatest Superbowl commercials, don’t let ne stop you from checking this link.
