Steve Martin’s Atheist Hymn [VIDEO]

If there was an atheist church and I was a member, I’d be happy to have Steve Martin as my pastor.

While I slightly disagree with Martin’s premise that atheists don’t have any good songs (Nine Inch Nails‘ “Heresy,” Flaming Lips’ “Do You Realize,” and John Lennon’s “Imagine” are the few that first come to mind), his folksy little ditty “Atheists Don’t Have No Songs” is by far the most hilarious one I’ve heard.

Martin performed this tune with the Steep Canyon RangersĀ at Merelefest in 2010, and again on “Late Night” earlier this month. If you haven’t caught it yet, watch below.

There are plenty of atheist “churches” if you’re really interested. Local secular organizations play pretty much the same social and community roles. If you’re in Dallas, check out the Fellowship of Freethought (fofdallas.org).
