Pendentif (Pendant, in English) have released a few songs of breezy pop sung in their native language.
The last two decades have seen a profusion of French groups and solo artists singing in English: Daft Punk, Air, Sebastien Tellier, Phoenix, M83, Charlotte Gainsbourg and the Plastiscines. Some of these artists record songs in French, but it is the rare band that strives for the experimental pop stylings of UK or American bands while maintaining a pure Francophone lyricism.
Such is the case with Pendentif (Pendant, in English).
The band recently released their eponymous EP, which contains songs “Riviera,” “Les Villes,” “Pendentif” and “God Save La France.” Pendentif have a warm and breezy pop sound about them that is eminently listenable even though the lyrics are in French. The music sometimes recalls The Radio Department and Peter Bjorn and John. Sebastien Tellier often sings in French, so why not give another French band with serious musical talent a chance?
You can pop over to Pendentif’s Myspace page to stream all songs but “Les Villes,” or head over to Bull Sonore Records to buy the EP.
