Russell Brand Slightly Better As Bunny Than Human

How does one feel when their cartoon film outshines their current live-action flick at the box office?

Actor, comedian, author and legendary swordsmen Russell Brand has two films in theaters at the moment: epic bunny flick “Hop” and unnecessary remake “Arthur.”

“Hop” is bringing home the bacon. It made $22 million over the weekend, aout $10 million more than the remake of “Arthur,” which originally starred Dudley Moore. “Arthur” scored a depressing 25% on the coveted Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer.

The best review came from the angriest movie reviewer on the planet, NYMag’s David Edelstein, who says Brand delivered a “career-killing performance.” Clearly Edelstein missed “Get Him to the Greek.”

“Hop” fared even worse with the critics, scoring a 24% on the Tomatometer. Walking in Dudley Moore’s footsteps isn’t easy. Being the Easter Bunny’s teenage son clearly isn’t, either.

The Easter bunny was No. 1 at the North American box office over the weekend as the animated and live-action hybrid “Hop” sold an estimated $38 million in tickets, performing far above expectations. The release from Universal Pictures cost $63 million to make, and audience-interest surveys indicated it would open to about $25 million in ticket sales. But a strong, whimsical marketing campaign did the trick, aided by the comedian Russell Brand, who gave voice to the main character, the Easter Bunny’s teenage son, right. Teenage girls, it turns out, find Mr. Brand as hilarious as many adults find him irritating.
