CBS Censorship Hypocrisy: Bill Maher Can’t Say ‘Teabagger’

CBS won’t let Bill Maher say the word “teabagger,” but they can have a whole show called “Shit My Dad Says”?

Bill Maher appeared on David Letterman’s show this week. In addition to a prescient take-down of Donald Trump that came well in advance of Obama releasing his birth certificate today, Bill Maher also spit some venom the Tea Party’s way. “I will stop calling them teabaggers when they stop calling it Obamacare.”

CBS censored out the word “teabagger,” which Maher says three times during the interview. Apparently “teabagger” is too vulgar for Letterman’s late-night audience—yet CBS hosted a prime-time show this season called “Shit My Dad Says.” I guess technically the show is called “$H*! My Dad Says,” but it’s clearly intended to be called “Shit.”

Does this seem a little strange to anyone else?

I was informed by a conservative friend that Teabagger is a derogatory term used to describe a tryst involving testicles… so there are many folks who would consider it an offensive, lewd, or vulgar title – I guess that was the point when the title was first applied to the Tea Party members… since then I have remembered to use only the term Tea Partier… I may disagree with them but I want to leave lines of communication open.

Well aren’t you just the prim and proper one. It isn’t derogatory at all. If the parties involved in said tryst are enjoying themselves then said act is not derogatory. The title wasn’t “applied” to the teabaggers, er, tea party, they called THEMSELVES that….until the alternate definition was pointed out. oooops! We’re not teabaggers, we’re the taxed enough already party….yeah right. And if you have to remind yourself to use the term tea partier, then perhaps you do indeed enjoy using the alternative terminology just a teeny tiny bit, now don’t you?

Nothing Prim about it – As an old hippie, I don’t think denigration is a good communication form – however much I disagree with someone, dialog that begins with contention is hostile. I choose my words to clarify – not to inflame.

I refuse to call them the Tea Party. The Tea Party was a group of people who rebelled against being taxed without having a representative of their peers present at the tax decision making. The people who are giving themselves that name now seem to just not want to pay taxes for things they are not themselves using regardless of what their elected representative votes for. Someone trying to coerce another person to lick to his sweaty, hairy balls for his own pleasure sounds a lot more like what Tea Baggers are trying to accomplish.

That’s absolutely ridiculous! If Maher hadn’t been on Letterman, I wouldn’t have watched it in the first place.

He was the ONLY reason for watching Letterman that night. I hold the remote and channel surf all the time between the late night shows. The monologues don’t interest me but sometimes the guests are worth watching. Come on CBS — if this content is past your bedtime, go to bed and leave the big kids up to figure it out!

Yea, if they try to censor all of the cute little ways people describe the various sex acts it’s going to take out a lot of words. Clearly it was a politically motivated censor, not having anything to do with decency.

This is NOT censorship! And to compare this to the CBS series “$H*! My Dad Says” is lame because THAT is the official title of the show. HBO and SHOWTIME can allow unedited use of words and the BROADCAST networks have restrictions. And yes, that “t” word does have a vulgar meaning behind it and should NOT be broadcast.

I am sick of the use of the word in general and have stopped watching Bill Maher mostly because of it. Using that word does NOTHING to advance the conversation on the issues but reduces the people who use that word to intentionally disparage a political group to their level of immaturity. WE can do better than that and use of insipid words like that have NO place in a reasonable adult conversation.

Edric, you have got a head full of cartoons . . . . . I am in the UK, and even I can work out that the censorship was politically motivated, rather than to uphold some sort of broadcasting “moral code”

Bill Maher has used that line once or twice on his HBO show and it is not at all offensive. It makes a very good point. CBS—how stupid can you be anyway? You know the kind of subject Bill Maher is going to talk about, that’s why he’s a popular guest. Similar to firing Gilbert Gottfried as the Aflac duck. You know in his comedy routine stuff is going to be said that is less than “correct”, yet you like his voice.

This is nuts. On prime time they can say bitch, when referring to a woman, but the term “Tea Baggers” is too offensive for late night TV… ;0/

I JUST FINISHED YOUR LAST SHOW, WITH MUCH TIME GIVEN TO “DONALD
TRUMP”. WELL, ITS ALWAYS BEEN A MYSTERY TO ME WHY HIS EARLIER “SCHOOL”
BACKGROUND HAS NEVER BEEN BROUGHT UP. I KNOW FOR A FACT ( MY EX-
HUSBAND WENT TO SCHOOL WITH HIM) THAT HIS EARLY EDUCATION WAS AT A SCHOOL CALLED DEVERAU (EXCUSE SPELLING – IT MIGHT BE SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT). THE SCHOOL WAS FOR “SPECIAL EDUCATION” IN THOSE DAYS, THE BULK OF THE TEENAGERS HAD ATTENTION DEFICIT DISORDER WITH HYPERACTIVITY – WHICH WAS NOT DIAGNOSED UNTIL THE MID 1980′S.
THERE WERE OTHER TEENAGERS WITH SIMILIAR LEARNING DISABILITIES. MOST OF THEM HAD BEEN KICKED OUT OF ALL THE OTHER SCHOOLS, INCLUDING MILITARY SCHOOLS. NO ONE COULD HANDLE THEM!
ANOTHER TIDBIT, HIS REPUTATION WAS ONE OF MEANESS, AND GENERALLY WAS UNLIKED. SO, SUCH WOULD BE THE BACKGROUND OF
THE NEXT “”"”PRESIDENT”"”"”! I HAD LIVED WITH A MAN WITH THIS TYPE OF DISABILITY, BAD JUDGEMENT, LYING, THE GAMUT OF A MAN WITHOUT
MORALS! NEXT PRESIDENT, PLEASE, PLEASE, KEEP THIS MAN AS A JOKE AND DO ALL THAT YOU CAN TO KEEP HIM AWAY FROM ANY POLITICS!!

P.S. SYLVESTOR STALLONE ALSO WENT TO THIS SCHOOL!
