‘Page One’ Trailer: A Year Under the Grey Lady’s Dress

Watch the world’s most powerful print publication struggle with the possibly of becoming irrelevant.

Newspapers don’t compete with the New York Times because most can’t compare. The Ochs-Sulzberger family empire is the most respected and powerful newspaper in the world. They’re peerless. The newspaper’s writers have won a record 106 Pulitzer Prizes. And while it’s the third largest newspaper in print, behind USA Today and the Wall Street Journal, it’ll always be considered the paper of record.

That is, as long as all that is fit to be printed continues to be printed.

When the print journalism industry started laying-off everyone in the newsroom, no one really seemed to be worried until it effected the Times. Now that newspapers and magazines are folding and thinning, even the most prestigious news source in the world is uncertain of its future.

Recently, director Andrew Rossi was given unprecedented access to the “Times” newsroom in his fim “Page One: A Year Inside the New York Times.” Rossi and his crew followed the Times’ diverse Media desk over the course of an entire year. The cast of characters include the young, ambitious and social media savvy Brian Stelter pitted against the un-endingly interesting addict turned respected “New York Times” columnist and author, David Carr.

Even in the short trailer it’s interesting to watch the newsroom struggle to evolve in the social media landscape and find solid ground as the newspaper’s importance seems to be slipping away. The result appears to be an immensely engaging documentary for anyone who has ever read a newspaper, let alone any poor sap that grew up wanting to write for one.
