Pennsylvania Priest Caught Lying About Being a Navy Seal After Buying $14 Pin

Want to be a Navy Seal? Just purchase a gold trident for 14 bucks.

Rev. Jim Moats lied to his local paper about being a Navy Seal during the Vietnam War. Is it odd to lie about such a thing? No.

The media coverage surrounding Navy Seals has been excessive, if not entirely propagandistic. If you’re to believe what you read, about 1500 or so superhuman white males live in Virginia Beach. When they’re not holding their breath for 15 minutes underwater they’re being dispatched to far corners of the world, assassinating America’s enemies.

Activated operators cannot talk to the press or be photographed, lest they compromise themselves or national security. Ranking officers refused to even divulge the name of the dog that accompanied the team that took out Osama bin Laden.

The elite Team 6 who carried out the evidence-less mission have been treated like superheros. They’ve been hoisted to mythological status by the press and even by Barack Obama, a mythological figure himself, who was awed by America’s incredible military capabilities.

This weekend, “Thor,” which adapts the Marvel comic version of the Norse God’s story, dominated the box office, as the story of the Seals dominates our other source of entertainment: the news. With bipartisanship’s year-long Titanic plunge, we talk a lot about American principles these days, but rarely touch upon it’s foremost one: hero worship.

The Seals have provided us another avenue to live outside ourselves. In fact, they’re flavor of the month. It’s a little icky, but don’t blame Jim Moats’ for his actions. In the land of make-believe, a Navy Seal seems like a great thing to be.

I was reading different news stories online when my mother pointed me
in the direction of this article concerning Jim Moat’s most current lie
about being a Navy Seal. This isn’t the first time that he has lied.
In fact him and his family personally ruined the faith’s of several
good Virginia families including my own. He was attending a church and
befriended a few different families and talked them into branching off
and creating a church of their own. He fed them lies of how he wanted
to lead them in their faith and so on. Shortly after the building was
leased for the new church, money started disappearing. After being
discovered for embezzling countless dollars from the church him and his
family abandoned the church and relocated. Leaving families that could
barely afford to feed themselves holding the bill. That man has been
lying, stealing, and taking advantage for a very long time. I wouldn’t
be surprised if more families and people start recognizing him and
telling the horrid deeds that he has done. Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if the church ended up footing the bill for his daughters wedding that I was flower girl in.
