Watch Dan Deacon’s Short Film ‘Hilvarenbeek’

Dan Deacon has collaborated with his friend Jimmy Joe Roche to create the surreal short film “Hilvarenbeek.”

First Die Antwoord created a short film with Harmony Korine, and now Dan Deacon has one-upped them with his very own short “Hilvarenbeek.”

The project grew out of a three week residency in Hilvarenbeek, Netherlands, as part of the Incubate Arts Festival, which is described as:

[An] annual celebration of independent culture in Tilburg, the Netherlands. It is a festival exhibiting a diverse view on indie culture as a whole, including music, contemporary dance, film and visual arts. It brings more than 200 cutting edge artists in an intimate context to an international audience. Black metal next to free jazz. Refreshing art next to inspiring debate.

The film was written and co-directed by Dan Deacon and Jimmy Joe Roche and involves neo-gregorian chants, hooted figures, electronic doom sounds, multi-coloured skies, machine guns, a forest, sheep herders, amongst other surreal figures and happenings. There’s not a little Alejandro Jodorowsky running through the warped stream of images here.
