So it’ll sort of be like his “Restoring Honor” rally last summer, only way sillier. Prepare for some of the best Beck quotes, ever.
The rally, which Glenn Beck announced on his radio show this morning, is tentatively scheduled for August. I have not a damn clue what its purpose is. Everything Beck has said about the “Restoring Courage” rally doesn’t make a bit of sense—this dude is all ethos.
As far as I can figure, it’s purpose is… divine providence? Just read some of the shit that he’s said about the rally, thus far:
“Evil grows when goodness does not stand. When man doesn’t reach for the highest heights, when man is afraid, when man is apathetic, evil grows. It’s not ‘Yes We Can’ it’s ‘Yes I Will.’ The question is, will you stand when it comes time.”
“I asked you to come to Washington to restore honor…I asked you to be the giant that Abraham Lincoln was, that George Washington was. To raise the next monument. There are people that are going to promise you peace in the coming months. Things in Israel are going to get bad, they are going to spread across the middle east, the things that I’ve told you are coming will come, it’s only a matter of time. And there are forces in this land and forces all over the globe that are trying to destroy us, but remember we are the great Satan, Israel is the little Satan. They are going to attack the center of our faith, our common faith, and that is Jerusalem, and it wont be with bullets or bombs, it will be with a two-state solution that cuts off Jerusalem—the old city—to the rest of the world. God is involved in mans’ affairs, but so is the force of darkness.”
“….And while wars will always be promised, peace will always come by standing in the place where [God] asks us to stand. I believe I’ve been asked to stand in Jerusalem. Many in the history of Man have had the opportunity to stand with the Jewish people—Poland, Russia, Germany. Time and time and time again, people have had the opportunity, and they have failed.”
“The only power-broker, the only seat of government that will solve this problem, with or without us, is God. It is time to return inside the walls that surround Jerusalem and stand with people of all faiths all around the world. This august, join me, for an event I have named ‘Restoring Courage.’”
“I want you to know, the very gates of hell are going to open up against us.”
“I believe we live in historic times. I believe historians will remember what we do and what we say. I believe there is only one answer to the things that face our world. And I believe the only one that records my name and my actions that I care about is the one that possesses that solution.”
“Good and evil is very clear now. We must stand together. We must beg for his assistance and his forgiveness and we must do good. We must restore courage in ourselves, and then stand.”
And there’s way more nifty Holocaust rhetoric throughout, not to mention Beck leaning heavily on the word “solution” right after blatantly referring to the current plight of the Jewish Homeland as possibly being the cite of a second genocide. Hint: I’m comparing Beck to Hitler, only, like a totally hypocritical Hitler, a way more compassionate sounding Hitler. Yeah.
And if he claims that people of all faiths and all nations are invited to come and stand with him inside the walls of the old city of Jerusalem—where the Big Guy in The Sky has summoned him to—then where exactly do the Palestinian people fit into all of this, especially after claiming that the Two-State Solution will be the death of the Christian faith?
Someone tell Glenn Beck that he looks like a total goober preaching from a table. Someone get this guy a podium! Listen to him go:

You people who have made stuff like politics and world issues a joke have put it in the back of your minds that this world is soon coming to an end. That crazy old thing called the rapture, it’s coming soon. What’s he’s talking about is a world figure who will be revealed among every nation as “The coming of God” but in scripture, is revealed as “Anti-Christ”. People don’t know what to believe in anymore in America, because its leaders have been throwing the belief system way out of whack. That’s also how it is for leaders in Israel and near Israel. If the Jewish people don’t have the courage to stand for their belief, then God’s chosen people will be led to the slaughter. I stand by Glenn Beck 110%.

So, Eric, let me help summarize your two posts:
Glenn Beck is a nutjob; I am also a nutjob. Therefore, I stand by Glenn Beck 110%.

Well Eric, you had better get some moon-boots on to stand out in outer-space with Glenn. The first time I saw his show, he was breathlessly reporting the “exclusive” imminent nuclear destruction of Cleveland, on the phone with his “source”, a vaguely Arab guy who literally sounded like he was a five-year-old making his story up on the fly. Surprise, surprise, no bombs in Cleveland. Glenn Beck is a charlatan fearmonger, possibly insane, who is paid tens of millions of dollars every year to make up more shit. While you and the Beckster prepare for a self-fulfilling delusion of spiritual holocaust, the rest of us might get on trying to make the real world a better place through hard work, tolerance, and ideas.

Just so everyone knows, Glenn Beck is a Mormon. Right now he’s “Restoring Courage” to Israel, as if they need him to do that for them, and last summer he was “Restoring Honor” to Washington DC from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on the anniversary of Martin Luther King’s “I had a dream” speech, as if they needed him to do that for them. Oddly enough, I had a cable access show in the 90′s where I used a chalk board, drew diaphragms, goofed with Right Wing conspiracy theories, and it looked a lot like Beck’s early efforts–before God took over his programming. It was funnier though. Like my Mormon musical that Parker and Stone swiped, my silly cable show didn’t catch on much either. (Always ahead of my time. I was doing “video verite” or “reality TV” before anyone knew what that was either.) I wish Glenn Beck luck but as I’m often wont to say of Rush Limbaugh: I heard everything he had to say in 1988. In Beck’s case, I heard everything he’s going to say in 1978, when I moved to Provo Utah to go to Brigham Young University. Glenn Beck I’m afraid, has climbed the back of the White Horse of Prophecy, and wants us all to come along for the ride. I know where that ride ends–with a basement full of stale Civil Defense wafers, hard tack, and iodine your local ward got to clean out of the Downtown Athletic Club in 1974 when they cancelled that program, barrels of stored water, a hand-cranked grinder at the ready, and a garage full of wheat buckets and textured vegetable protein so you can’t properly park your car.
